Rebate Hell

Rebates have such a way of making things look like such a great deal. And usually the worst of it is having to figure out how you’re going to cut the UPC code out of something. But I’m sure more people than not have run into something like this:

Seven months and eleven days later (and a half dozen or so emails in between), I finally got my rebate. I suppose I should feel lucky that I got anything at all. A simple Google search shows that I’m not the only person that has had an issue trying to get rebates from that company. I’ll never buy from TigerDirect again.

Now back to our blizzard that we’re having over here…

  2. Well, there’s Lonny contact information if anyone needs it. I wish I would have had that a few months back when I started inquiring about what I needed to do to receive my rebate. But I poked around TigerDirect and OnRebate’s website and there wasn’t any contact information to be found. I eventually found an 800 number for OnRebate which I called, only to be put into an automated menu that never gave me an option to talk to a person.

So I kept dropping emails into the blackho… errr… OnRebate’s support box. I had pretty much all but given up, and then out of the blue I received an email and my rebate arrived. Seven months later, but it arrived.

Honestly, it’s just not worth the hassle of trying that experience again. 6-8 weeks or even 8-12 weeks (as advertised), I can see. But this whole process took just over 32 weeks??! Not double, but almost triple the longest time advertised. :/

You guys should partner with a new rebate firm, IMO. Either that or do some serious chewing out to whomever is running the show at OR. Sadly, that search page above is entirely filled of folks with bad experiences trying to get rebates from your company.

  3. How interesting that Lonny found your complaint so quickly!

My beef with rebates is that the one I got from Cingular came in time but instead of sending me a check for $200 they sent me 2 plastic cards that can be used like credit cards. One for $75 and one for $125. The first problem with that is the plastic - do we really need to clutter up the world with more non-biodegradable plastic cards? Second of all I would have preferred something I could SAVE instead of being given something I had to SPEND. Of course I can now save $200 that might otherwise have gone to groceries but still - the whole credit card/spender forced mentality is just not what I had in mind.
