Lets Call It Recovery Week!

Yeah… nice of me to decide that on Friday when the week is almost over, eh? I really haven’t done much training wise this week. I think I’m up to 5:15 for the week and three of those hours are in the pool where I need them the least. I did a nine mile run on Monday which felt really good during the run, but I had terrible back pain that night and the day after. I don’t know what exactly it was from but I was in too much pain to do anything the next couple of days.

Yesterday and today it’s been raining on and off and it’s cold again (in the 50s) which leaves me feeling all sorts of blah and not wanting to workout. This weekend, it looks like it’ll be nice out though. Especially Sunday! Maybe I’ll finally be able to take the bike out for a proper ride then.

Speaking of which, it’s probably a good thing that it did rain last night. I rode the new bike (still unnamed at this point, Flatman) on the trainer which I was bummed about doing for its first “voyage”. But the bike had its chain fall off once (front derraileur: fixed!), the platform for the pads on my aerobars were loose (fixed!), and my back started minorly bugging me after 45 minutes so I ended up just getting off early. So I guess it was better that way after all.

My Zipp 909 wheelset is now officially sold. My frameset hits eBay in about two minutes. Just in case anyone is still interested. :) So long Zipps! It was really nice having you along for the ride!

  1. getting geared up is both time consuming and important.

i’d add those hours in, and call it a full week.

  3. Hey there gettting to the party late regarding your P3C sizing dilemma. Just wondering because I don’t see it in your post (sorry if it’s there somewhere) but in the pics of your current P3 v P3C, is that a 54cm P3C you are comparing to your current bike? Also, what size is your alum P3 / how tall are you? This whole 650 v 700 issue is a bummer as well…I see you made the switch but I hate having to purchase new race wheels in 700 since I have already invested $$$ in 650’s. You ended up with a nice bike though- congrats!
Re: recovery- nice decision….training is over-rated!;-)

  4. Hi Chris, it’s comforting to know that I am not the only one who goes into “accidental” recovery weeks. :)

Nice bike, not quite as sexy as the P3C, but probably one that betta meets your needs and the Ti frame should keep you nice and comfy too. I like the HED wheels that you are getting to complete the race package!

  6. OK - you have that Profile drink system, too. HOW in the crap do you get that thing NOT to splash you on the road? I have the spongey thing in there, I EVEN stuck a hard cap on there, still freakin’ splashing me - GRRRRR. I’m about to just go to bottles…Any ideas?

  7. Mike: Yes, the two bikes being compared in the picture are the P3C and the older aluminum P3. Both are a size 54. I’m about 5′9″ with a 31″ inseam if that helps? Yeah, I’m still recovering from the loss of the 909 650c wheelset. But I should be the proud owner of a new wheelset in a week or so. Stay tuned. :)

Wil: Some water is bound to leak out of there. It’s kind of a bummer that way. Really, the only way to minimize splashing (that I’ve found) is to not fill it up all the way to the top. Maybe half way in the fattest part of the bottle? Or find some smoother roads to ride on? :) I always end up just putting water in there. If I try to stick Gatorade or anything in there, my aerobars would just be a sticky mess. At least with water, my bike gets “washed” while I ride. :)
