I Will Click Publish, I Will Click Publish…

After a handful of botched attempts and posting these past couple of weeks, I’ll see what I can to do make sure that this post doesn’t end up in the “Drafts” folder graveyard with other posts that will likely never see the front page. I have posts labelled “Thoughts From The Future” and “No Power” and I have no idea what they’re about or why I labelled them as such. Bleh.

Well, we’ve moved into “Spring” here in the land just south of Antarctica which means that either it’s sunny and windy (at the moment of posting, 22 MPH winds gusting to 26 MPH to be exact), which sort of ruins the sunny aspect of things. Looking out your window give you that “Yay! It’s gorgeous outside!” but stepping outside, you soon realize that what looks like a pleasant summer day still feels quite nippy. And for the days here where it isn’t windy, it’s most surely cloudy and raining. I’m still waiting for those 2-3 weeks of constant rain that we seem to get here every Spring. :(

As such, my bike has yet to see any real pavement yet this year. I’ve been debating giving my bike and body the “shock and awe” treatment of taking it outside for the first time either for the 100 mile bike ride (my longest ride this year has been about 20 miles on the trainer :P) with the tri-club later this month, or at my first race at the end of next month. I really don’t know if I can mentally take the trainer any more though, so the bike will likely seem pavement before either of those dates, though.

But I did manage a “long” (well, 6.5 miles is long when you’re used to running 3-4) run last Saturday, and it was nice enough to do it in shorts! And thankfully, my time off doing any longer running hasn’t affected my pace in a negative way. On the contrary, Saturday’s run was done at sub-8 pace?! I don’t know if it was the excitement of running long without Achilles pain or being able to run ouside in shorts. Perhaps a little of both? But ohhhh the joy of not having to put on tights/pants to go outside for a run. I suppose Spring isn’t all bad here in the Twin Cities. :)

  2. You’re such a bike stud - I’m nowhere near 100 miles yet!!! And holy cow on the run, you’re totally going to beat your time this year!

  3. I have 580 miles on my bike for the year and 170+ miles of running. Can someone please tell me why I still run slower than 10 minute miles?

  4. My bike will be in shock and awe when I take it out for the first time this weekend to race. don’t forget to tighten the quick release lever a little bit more.

Keep it up on the run. I was in the same position as you just a few weeks ago with health problems and now it feels good to get back to where you were before.

  5. Wow. Nice times on the run. Don’t worry, bike weather is coming. I got a short 25 miler in last weekend and it was so nice. Well, I did wear a long sleeve jersey because of the wind, but I did wear shorts!!! keep it up, man.

  6. Once the bike is taken off the trainer, I don’t want to put it back on.

Cold or not, I am going to ride outside.

  7. Nice job, Chris. Sounds like you are way ahead of schedule to set some PR’s this year!
    Keep it up…

  8. Oh, I’m still totally not ready for 100 miles. But that’s part of the “shock and awe”. My body deserves to feel some serious hurt and pain after having the whole winter off. If anything, it’s a dose of reality of how out of shape I am and how badly I need to start logging miles in on the bike.

As for the running, I’ve stopped being a slave to my HRM and have just been running by feel these days. Much credit to Steven who I’d thank if I could catch him. After two or three weeks of running while feeling like I was going to throw up, things have started getting better. I think I’m due for another couple weeks of nausea, though. I’d like to see those paces come down even further!

  9. Holy speedy! You’re doing something right out there ;)

100 miles with little training, that’ll kick start the bike season for sure!

At least today feels a little more like spring :)

  11. I have not ridden 100 miles before in my life and looking at the state I am in, I probably never will. :)

Glad to see that i am not the only one to consider 6.5 mile run a long run though. ;P

  12. My bike is still hanging from the rafters in the garage. I’ve been buggin hubby for 3 weeks to get it down. I’m too short or I’d do it myself. Great job on the mileage.
