The Buffet

So yesterday, my friend and I are having at lunch at a local Mexican buffet (I know… you’re thinking, Mexican buffet? That certainly doesn’t sound like a very triathlon lifestyle thing to do? Bear with me. :) ). I had finished getting my food and was heading back to my seat when I passed my friend who was standing in line with this stunned look on his face. He later comes back to tell me that while we were in line, a guy was attempting to put some salsa in this little dipping cup thing when he dropped the whole cup into the trough. No big deal, right? UNTIL HE REACHED HIS BARE HANDS, KNUCKLE DEEP, INTO THE SALSA TO TRY AND FISH THE CUP OUT??! What the…. gross!! I’m not sure if the staff even noticed, but I didn’t see them changing out their salsa after it had happened. Needless to say, I don’t think I’ll be eating there again.

In other news, I’m back in the arctic tundra that is Minnesota. Not really glad to be back, but back none the less. I’m way behind on your guys/gals blogs so, sorry for that. I’ll try and catch up soon.

Nothing really much noteworthy workout wise either. 6.5 mile run on Monday, an hour spin on the trainer yesterday, and this morning was 3,300 yards in the pool. I’m going to run again this afternoon. It’s “nice” out today - aka. it’s 34 degrees. *sigh* I need to move.

  1. When you say you were in line getting your food…was this your second, third trip back to the buffet? :)

    34 does not equal “nice”.

Welcome back to the deep freeze!

  4. How much plate did you have… :)..just like everyone else..we like ot know :D

You know how chinese ppl LOVE japanese buffet. Yes there is fish. But I know I will stuff myself (i don’t have discipline). For training i cut that out as well. Besides, for the price i pay, I am sure they don’t serve us wild salmon.

The only buffet I will go to is the western style. At least I can eat salads and fresh greens.

Speaking buffet..last time I went to one for my friend’s b-day…i had 4 plates of food. By the time all my friends were eating their dessert, I was still eating my main meal :)….mostly salads though…..:)

  7. I’m hesitant to eat ANYWHERE that people have access to foods that all will be sharing. People can be so disgusting sometimes. And you just never know who has been there that day….or the day before…or the day before THAT…

    just imagine…

  8. I am all for triathletes eating Mexican food given that I have done that four times in the last five days. I am not sure what horrifies me more though: a mexican buffet with the salsa hand guy or just a mexican buffet in Minnesota, Scary!

  9. Buffets are not a good thing. WAY too many grubby hands all over everything. Pcik something up, nah, changed my mind, put it back, kids a sneeze level with the counter…yuck.
Step away from the buffet and no one will be hurt…I mean…sick.

  11. Taste of Thailand and Sawatdee are my top choices. I’m only a couple blocks aways from Taste. To answer your question since you don’t have a e-mail listed and incase you didn’t check back for an answer. :)

  12. Guhhhhhhuhhh!!!

Nasty. Makes you wonder what other disgusting stuff people like that think is OK. Sick, mental floss… mental floss!!!

And welcome home. I hear you on the “nice” weather - though Keryn talked about it being -4 in Iowa on the latest podcast, so I feel all kinds of better about living in the Midwest with my 33 degrees!

  14. Actuallly, the run was quite pleasant today-the whole world just seemed happy for the sun to be shining and the sky to be deep blue—=Spring is coming-which means we are right now as distant from winter as we ever get :)

  16. Dude, Minnesota has to be one of the toughest places for a triathlete to live. That and Chicago, Boston, or New York City. You might as well be training on the frozen tundra. None the less, spring isn’t too far away. If you’ve made it this far, surely you can make it farther. By the way, maybe we need to avoid all buffets. That guy probably does it every buffet he frequents. That’s just gross. If you want to read something even nastier, check out trigeek dream. That will gross you out.
