Storm Update

Oh, and I forgot to mention that by the time I got home yesterday the power had already been restored in my neighborhood. Thanks for all your concern. It didn’t take the five days that they were expecting on the high end here, but I guess they’re still saying days for some neighborhoods around me that don’t have power.

Apparantly, there were two F2 category tornados that touched down in the area Wednesday night - one in a suburb just a few miles north and one just a few miles east. Here are some pictures of the damage that was done. I can’t believe that this was right in my backyard! I’m considering myself very, very lucky!

  1. Those pictures are so crazy, I can’t believe it. You’re right tho, what we’re experiencing is just a small part of what people have experienced through Katrina and possibly Rita…it’s almost incomprehensible.

  2. Wow, that is crazy. I grew up in an area which was hit by several hurricanes. Albeit, it was nothing like what is going on now in Lousiana, Mississippi and Texas. There were trees falling into people’s houses. Pretty scary stuff. It’s really amazing how fortunate we are when we come out of these things unscathed.

  5. That last picture took my breath away. The aerial shot really shows the extent of the damage. Natural disasters are appropriately named, I guess…

Here’s to hoping that Rita fizzles out before landfall…!

  6. So glad to hear you’re ok. I saw those pics and had to read the text twice to make sure those weren’t pics of your house!

  10. Wow! Look at those pictures! I know you’re glad you missed it but…. would you have (just a little) liked to be there to see it? I would… Glad you’re safe and your place is undamaged and your power is on.

  13. OMG.

I went to college in tornado alley (mid-western USA) and I STILL have nightmares sometimes.

So glad you are safe and sound.
