Improvement Is Good

I went on a 35ish mile ride yesterday with a couple of triathlete neighbors. I did my first ride with these guys sometime in either late May or early June? And they really put the hurt on me back then. :(

Fast forward a couple months and a good number of miles. Yesterday, it was the same folks riding. Different route, but same people all of which have been training over the summer for various races. I won’t kid myself. They’re still faster riders than I am if they want to turn on the juice, but they’ve both marked a noticable improvement in my fitness compared to just a few months ago. I felt better too. Unlike my previous ride with them, I was never too out of breath and was never tempted to tell them that I was going to pack it in and head back by myself. That made me feel good. :)

The weather is crappy here and looks like it’ll be crappy until Saturday. Good thing it’s a rest week. I’m hoping the weather will be good next week. Just one big week left.

  1. I love that you have ‘triathlete neighbors’. I don’t think I hang out with another triathlete even from my own city (mesa)

  2. I am in the same situation as Comm. My neighbor has competed in one olympic tri, but won’t train because he is too busy… /lonely/ :(

  3. I’m in the same boat… Lots of friends who run but no one who tris! (yet - I get on my soapbox often). Thank god for the Internet :)

Cool that you are watching your times improve. I’m happy for you that you’re going into your last weeks of training strong.

Blah, rain. We just can’t be happy in Minnesota!!!

  4. Congrats on your ride! It’s good training to ride with faster people, but it’s even better when you get good enough to hang with them. Great job!

  6. Riding with people makes such a difference for me! Very cool that you have people just down the sidewalk!
