My Mobile Pain Parasite
Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is my achilles tendon seems to be happy now that I’ve given it a week or so of rest. I went on a 6.5 mile training run yesterday and didn’t have any problems or pain (and was happy to note that I didn’t lose any speed either!). The bad news? Yesterday morning, I started getting an ache in my shoulder during swim practice. Serves me right for trying to make up having missed last Monday by swimming Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. But oh well. I’m actually sort of used to swimming with tendonitis in my shoulder from my college days. Plus, if I need to take time off from swimming, it’s the least of my worries. But that pain parasite is persistent. It moved from my left knee to my right knee to my left shin to my left foot to my achilles and now to my right shoulder!
Yesterday’s weather was absolutely horrible. Right around lunchtime, we got the worst midday thunderstorm that I’ve ever seen. At high noon the sky was pitch black. I wish I had my camera with my at the time so I could have shared a picture with you all. During the storm, I went to move my car from the outside parking lot to a covered ramp. I tried crossing the street to get back into my office protected with my trusty umbrella, but the rain was coming down hard and sideways and I ended up looking like I had just hopped out of the shower. All in about 50 yards!
Today was a hot one with temperatures in the upper 80s and humid. I did a 31 mile ride and a very pathetic, very slow two mile run. I was melting out there by the end. According to the scale, I lost about four pounds of water out there despite taking in fluids during my ride! And the mercury is supposed to rise here in the next couple of days. I certainly don’t fare well in the heat, but I’ll take hot and humid over rain and clouds any day.
