10 Days, 9 Hours, 54 Minutes, and 46 Seconds

Is the current reading on my countdown clock to IMMoo. It’s pretty crazy to be thinking that it’s coming in days and not weeks. And that it’ll be close enough soon to see the weather forecasts and what not. The whole event has really been all I’ve been able to think about for the past few week or so.

I know I keep saying this, but I did yet another last long workout today. Just under a three hour brick with 46 miles of cycling and a short 3 mile run. The bike felt really strong, but I may have brought it home a little too hard. I was trying to simulate heavy legs by pushing hard the last few miles of the bike. It did work, but my HR went sky high on my run. It didn’t feel bad or like I was going to blow up or anything. But my HR was a good 15 beats above where I usually train at. I guess it could have been cardiac drift too.

Seemingly all the pieces are falling together quite nicely. My swimming has been the best it has been all season. I almost feel as good in the water as I did in my college years. My biking and running paces are faster and more effortless than normal. Being able to rest for those breakthrough workouts definitely has its benefits. I just hope and I’ll have to trust that I’m not peaking too early.

Lastly, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who stops by and an even bigger thanks to those who take the time to leave me a message. It’s nice knowing that when I hit my publish button that someone else besides me ends up reading it. Thanks to those who stopped to share their own experiences and for the many words of encouragement thus far. See you at the races!

  3. Thanks Lu! :)

Hey Jay! I didn’t know you read this too. Heh. I’m suddenly going from feeling like nobody is reading what I write here to wondering how many folks really are here and I just don’t know about them. :) Thanks for the IM wishes!

  4. I’ve been quite the regular here for about a month, actually. Just haven’t left any comments… until now! :) The mere thought of a person going from couch potato to an Ironman competitor in such a short timespan is, quite frankly, unbelievable. Another word I could use is inspiring.

I’ve been planning on getting up and off my lazy butt for some time now but haven’t had the motivation. I just didn’t know if going and doing it would pay-off. I’m one to want immediate results and have a hard time shooting for the long-term goals. But seeing somebody I know go out and do it is just… wow. Maybe I can too.

Mind you, I merely want to gain muscle mass as I’m quite thin. I hear it’s easier for the lighter folk?

Anyway, again, good luck and have fun at the IronFeg. Tell us all how you do. :)

  5. I assure you that you’re capable of taking yourself as far as you want to go, Jay. I wouldn’t advocate wanting immediate results though. I went into it knowing that it took me years to get me out of shape and likewise, it could take years getting into shape. In fact, I see now why folks say that you should wait until your second year of racing do attempt the IM distance. As much progress as I’ve made to my endurance, I can tell I’m still improving and I haven’t peaked out yet. If it were simple and easy, everyone would look like the folks you see on magazine covers. Small, lifestyle changes that you can keep for months and years will far outweigh a crash course in fitness that likely will only last days or weeks. You can do it! :)

In other news, if you’re bored and around on Sunday the 12th, check out http://www.ironmanlive.com. You can get updates when I finish the swim, bike, and run legs. They may have streaming video and audio too. I dunno. Anyway, I’ll be sporting number #411. :)
