Seems like I’m always playing catch up here.

Saturday I did go and see a movie, but I forgot to mention that I did a local triathlon as a relay with a few of my friends. We did the Turtleman Triathlon in Shoreview, MN. Distances were a 0.9 mile swim, a 24.5 mile bike, and a 5.2 mile run. We entered in the mixed relay category thinking we’d have a good chance to win it. But as luck would have it, our runner for reasons that I won’t get into at this time wasn’t able to run as hard as she wanted to. Had she been on pace and up to her potential that day, we’d have been real close. But no matter. It was a fun day none the less.

Sunday was pretty much just spent on my bike. I now officially have two century rides under my belt. This ride felt better than my first one, I think mostly because I had known that I had done it before. The first couple hours I felt weak, but I attribute that to only having a banana for breakfast (I was out of milk so couldn’t fuel up with cereal). I stopped at mile 40 to fix that with a Krispy Kreme donut though. The last 20 miles or so were harder, but I didn’t take in enough fuel towards the end of my ride so it’s my own fault. All in all, it was good though. Averaged above 19 MPH which is slightly above my anticipated IM pace. I’d be thrilled to hold that speed for 112 miles come race day and with a taper and race wheels, that might just be possible.

Yesterday, I more less relaxed and took it easy. I swam in the morning, but let my legs rest in the afternoon. I’ll probably run long today so didn’t see much point in doing an aerobic maintenance workout yesterday with my legs still a little tight from my ride. My girlfriend and I ended up going out to watch The Bourne Supremacy last night. The movie was better than I thought it was going to be. I had heard from a few people that it wasn’t as good as the first one. And I suppose it did seem to drag a little towards the end. But it was entertaining. I felt like I got my money’s worth and that’s what counts!

Which brings us to now. It’s cold and miserable here this week. The high today is 61?! It’s the middle of summer for crying out loud! And people wonder why I hate living here sometimes.

Tonight a few of us went out to watch I, Robot. The movie was better than I thought it would be. I don’t know if I’d recommend it to others, but it was entertaining. The best part of the night probably came after it was all finished. I only wish I could have witnessed the whole thing first hand, but the story was entertaining enough to have to share.

A friend of mine had to use the bathroom before we left and was relieving himself in one of the urinals. Well, the urinals in the movie theather are those that do that automatic flush deal and it started to flush as he was taking care of business… and kept flushing… and kept flushing. So it gets to that point where it’s clearly going to overflow and as it does, he steps back as all the water/urine mixture spills all over the floor. Meanwhile, this little kid comes running into the bathroom towards the urinal, slips on the flood that’s now on the ground, and… *SPASH*… ends up with his hands and shirt in the pool of liquid. All of course with his two friends laughing at him while he’s on the ground.

Now before you take too much pity on the kid, I should preface that one of those kids was making all sorts of noise in the row in front of us during the movie. Whether he deserved to be drenched in piss is debatable. I chalk it up to bad kharma. ;) Oh man… I was laughing so hard when I heard the story, I had tears streaming from my eyes and couldn’t stop laughing the entire car ride home. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.

I’m still alive and kicking. My life has been pretty mello as of late so I haven’t had too much to post about. After my race a couple weekends ago, I had a nice relaxing recovery week and just started my final base week on Monday. I got a nice long 2.5 hour run in yesterday which is probably the second to last “long” run that I’ll do (I have another one during my first peak week, but the duration drops down to 1.5-2 hours). A couple more century rides and it’s time to let the body rest. I’m excited and nervous that IM Wisconsin is just around the corner. I raced my last 1/2 fast (for me) and effortless and my training has been going pretty well. My body should be ready. But there’s still that fact that it’s an Ironman and that I’ve never done one before. It’s getting awfully close….
