Peak Week 1 and BT #2

Another long workout checked off the books. I thought about going for five hours, but decided against it since Going Long didn’t say anything about doing it. I wanted to do something longer and harder, but I’ll trust the experts in knowing what they’re talking about. They haven’t failed me yet. I was planning on doing 4.5 hours but I had a big tailwind coming home and ran faster than I thought I was going to so I only ended up at just over four hours for the workout. It felt GREAT! I felt really strong the whole way through my ride and I was able to hold a pretty fast run pace after my longish ride. If I can feel anything like I did today in a couple weeks, watch out!

I woke up this morning and found my weight back down to a more respectable 155. After I got back from my workout, I was 152. Guess I was a little dehydrated. :) Now it’s back to eating various weeds and such. Only two more weeks…

  1. Hey Chris,

Did you create your training program solely off of “Going Long?” I’ve been thinking about using markallenonline.com again..any thoughts?

  2. I used The Triathletes Training Bible, Going Long, the opinions of some friends who have done IM, and some folks on various forums (i.e. Slowtwitch, Gordo’s World, and TriNewbies). When there were differences of opinion, I tended to follow Going Long since I trust that source pretty well.

I don’t have any first hand experience with markallenonline.com, but I do recall one person who used it and had nothing to say but good things about it. I remember him saying that if he had the money to do it, he’d definitely go that route again. Me… I’d rather spend the money (foolishly) on tri toys. :)

Hope your training is going well! :)

  6. what does your diet consist of during the day? like what types of meals do you usually eat?

  7. I usually try and eat as well as I can. I try and eat fruits, veggies, and lean cuts of meat (i.e. chicken, fish) as much as possible. I have apples and bananas for snacks.

Of course, I don’t always do so well. Some of my “bad” items include reduced fat Pringles, McDonalds Ice Cream Cones (really, only 150 calories), Snickers Marathon bars. I try to eat these in moderation though and am generally careful about overall calorie intake for the day.

I very, very rarely eat fast food, pizza, pasta, wings and lots of other stuff that I used to enjoy. I don’t really crave those foods too much anymore though, so I don’t really feel like I’m missing anything. Took a little while for those cravings to disappear though.
