So I went on a pretty large food bender last night. This is all just after my recent post on how I just hit my goal weight and how I don’t have cravings and what not anymore. That’s true and all, but not having cravings isn’t to say that I don’t enjoy good food. It’s more that those cravings don’t rule my life anymore.

The day started out well enough. I had about 1200 calories for the day until 7 pm or so where my girlfriend and I went to meet another friend for dinner. I should have known that it was going to go bad when we chose an all-you-can-eat Mongolian barbeque for the venue. I ended up skipping my appetizer and rice, but had a good 3.5 plates of food. I don’t feel too guilty about that, since really most of my plates consisted of vegetables and some lean cuts of meat. Still, no human needs to consume 3.5 plates of food. The evening was then topped of the evening watching the Timberwolves beat up on the Nuggets (and watching them get out of the first round of the NBA playoff for the first time in franchise history!)… while eating a Dairy Queen ice cream log cake for dessert. I estimate I ate at least half a log.

Total caloric intake for the day: approximately 3800 calories. Not bad considering my estimated burning for the day was 3600ish. I’m a little over, but considering my will power on the days that I eat well, I don’t feel too bad anymore about going on a food bender here and there. For those that are reading and question my will power: In the past 10 weeks or so that I’ve really been watching my diet, I can safely say that I can only remember really going on three benders or so during that time. The rest of the time has been spent eating well.

Final notes. I’ve finally come to realize (and perhaps only believe now because I’ve made my goal weight) that I’m not a “bad” person just because I eat badly for a meal. For those interested in reading more about proper nutrition, I highly recommend reading some of Gordo’s Tips. There is lots of excellent information there about nutrition.
